Hey! So it’s finally July… How are y’all Seattleites doing? So for this month, we’ll be starting off with a short blog about an artist – Taylor Swift.
So to begin with her musical background, Taylor Swift debuted as a country music singer at the age of 16. She was born on December 13th, 1989. Her upbringing was in Pennsylvania, and her musical roots comes from her grandmother, who was a professional opera singer.
She was recognized for her talents as a singer even earlier in her life before 16, and boy the time she had turned 10, she was already on-stage, singing the US Anthem for a 76er’s basketball game.
By the time she had reached 12, she was writing her own songs as well as learning the guitar, kick-starting her career as a country singer.
Notable musical moments in her life
In 2008, Taylor Swift released her album 'Fearless'. This album reached #1 on the country and pop charts for 11 consecutive weeks. To put this into perspective, she finished off 2008 being the highest selling country artist of the year.
In 2010, Taylor Swift was nominated for the Grammy awards for her album 'Fearless', becoming the youngest artist to be nominated for the Grammy's.
Further in 2010, she released two separate albums; 'Speak now' and 'Red'. 'Speak now' featured songs such as 'Mean ours' and 'Sparks fly' while 'Red' featured songs like 'we are never ever getting back together'. Both albums hit 1 million copies sold within the first week of sales.
In 2014, she released '1989' which featured songs like 'Shake it off'. This album sold over 1.2 million copies in 1 week.
In 2017, Taylor Swift Released 'Reputation' in which references of past quarrels with Kim Kardashian. She also released her first single 'look what you made me do' which has more than 19 million views on YouTube in a day.
In 2019, Taylor Swift Released 'Lover' (her seventh studio album). This was the only album to sell over a million in 2019.
Currently, Taylor Swift is in the process of re-recording her old works (songs before her album ‘reputation’ whilst writing new songs. Taylor Swift has run into a conflict with her previous label company owned by Scooter Braun, in which a large portion of her old works are licensed to Scooter’s company rather than Taylor Swift’s own. Basically put, the rights many of her works are not in the hands of Taylor Swift. Therefore, Taylor Swift is re-recording her old songs to regain control over her old songs.
